Joy + Jordan | A Rustic Ranch Wedding | Thistle Springs Ranch

What a love story. Seriously, one of my favorites. Joy and Jordan were in different places, different cities and knew nothing of each other. Jordan’s aunt however, knew both of them and was anxious for them to meet. She claimed it was not a set up per say, but that she thought they would make great friends because of their common interests. Jordan decided to email Joy and introduce himself. The emails eventually tapered off though as Joy was leaving to spend some time in Uganda and Jordan was busy with life as well. A few months later, Joy’s sister was living in the same town as Jordan and sent her kids to the camp he was working at. Her sister was a fan immediately! Seven months after their emails were sent, they both ‘ironically’ got jobs teaching at the same school. Of course, in my opinion, God’s plan doesn’t really leave room for the ‘ironic’ but more for the divinely orchestrated. They officially met in person at an all faculty meeting and well… the rest is history. I suppose they owe it all to his aunt!

These two make an unbelievable match. Their undeniable love for each other is only overshadowed by their undeniable love for their Savior, Jesus Christ. She loves that he is loyal, strong and gracious in loving her just as she is. As she says, ‘He brings peace to my heart that casts out any fear and embraces me with love and joy. My heart is always full when I’m with him!”  He loves that she is tender, gracious, forgiving and loving. As he says, “In her presence, I feel loved and respected which gives me the courage to be who the Lord calls me to be.” Could there be better words spoken of your spouse?! I don’t think so.

Joy and Jordan, it was a privilege to document such a special day in both of your lives. I am looking forward to seeing how your path as Mr. and Mrs. unfolds and I am confident, no matter where it takes you, that your unified love for your Savior will lead you and bless you.

Enjoy some of my favorites from their rustic ranch wedding!

Happy Friday!

Joy’s father passed away not long before she met Jordan. A true cowboy, they incorporated a lot of him in to the day, including some of his cowboy hats. It was such a special way to have him honored.  Exchanging gifts. Her father. Joy’s mother had the sweetest reaction as her youngest and last child to get married was given away.  ‘This was totally unplanned but the hymn book was turned to “Our God Has Made Us One.” Perfect.  Married!!! And very happy about it! Alright…it’s just true. Groomsmen just have more fun. No offense to all the ladies out there but let’s be real.  Joy, you made a STUNNING bride. Your name fits you so very well! The reception was held at Thistle Springs Ranch in Cleburne, TX. It was absolutely a wonderful location!!! Any newly engaged Dallas/Ft. Worth brides need to check it out!

Dancing with her brother and her dad’s best friend. So special.  I was skeptical of the hula hoops at first but Ive got to say, they got the party started and made for some fun shots! So fitting that the Faculty parking tag is in the picture!

Take Me Back Tuesday | My New Favorite Subject

Well, Internet, I’ve become that person. That aunt this is obsessed with her nephew and wants everyone to see. He is the background on my phone, I ask my sister to send me a picture a day and I’m pretty sure I’ve made several of my friends sit as I scrolled through my iPhone pics to show them how precious he is. It’s funny how it just comes over you and you can’t control it. I am one proud aunt to one precious little boy!

She had said that it looked like Baby G was going to be past due and so we were all bummed and prepared ourselves to wait. One day later, however, I got a call…as in THE call. She was in labor and headed to the hospital. I had made plans to hang out with friends that night but I was a ball of energy the whole time. I couldn’t sit still for the life of me! Unfortunately, there were no more flights out until the morning so I prepared myself to miss his/her birth itself. “You can do it! Remember, you are little but mighty!” I said to her before I headed to bed that night. The next morning…my birthday…OUR birthday…I boarded a plane bound for Florida and despite the early hours and lack of sleep, I was wide awake. I was about to be an AUNT!! We got to the hospital in a rush and met my brother-in-law’s family in the lobby. They were all careful not to spill the beans and so we headed upstairs. I walked in to the room, ready to meet my niece or nephew, and there I saw HIM!! I took one look at him in his Daddy’s arms, turned to my best friend since BEFORE birth, a new MOTHER and well…I lost it. Tears came tumbling down my cheeks uncontrollably and I melted.

It’s crazy, really. You see, I spend my days with couples who are in love. Each story is different. Unique to them and a tale all their own. I love hearing about them because they are all special. However, one thing is constant. They all FELL in love. It was a journey to get there. An unfolding. Love itself is a daily part of my life…but this, THIS was different. How can you love someone who you literally just met? It’s a mystery. They placed little Jude Wallace in my arms and I was in love. He’s not even my own child and I loved him instantly. What a new perspective on unconditional love?! Praising God today for this new little life in our family and a new understanding of Christ’s unconditional love.

So, in the name of Jude, crazy Aunt Mary (as in crazy COOL), birthday triplets, and unconditional love,

I Say, Take Me Back!

(Sidenote: If you follow the blog much you know that most of my work is with couples in love. Every once in a while I’ll do a session with a senior, a family and once in a blue moon…a newborn. However, let’s just say that newborns are a far ‘cry’ (pun intended) from an engaged couple! I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a hard job and I’m still learning. We tried to do Jude’s newborn session but well…he just was NOT having it! So, I had to settle for some shots of him while he was asleep. The perfectionist in me was grieving over the lack of some super cute nude shots…the ones he’ll be embarrassed of later in life…but I had to let it go. You can bet that boy will be well photographed over the years if I have anything to say about it. Unfortunately, I think the opportunity for naked pictures has closed!)

This is his Momma’s favorite. Showing off his daddy’s chin and mouth!

It may be me, but I think he’s praying at an early age!!

Jude is amazing!

Mary, I can’t help saying it- great newborn shots!!!

I’m glad we share a nephew! 😉 He is precious! I also love that he is wearing the outfit one of his other aunts (Alli) and I got for him! 😉

If I can get my hands on a camera (since mine bit the dust), I’ll try to get some cute naked shots! ha, ha!

Bonnie Anderson - April 30, 2013 - 7:29 pm

I think your pictures are wonderful – asleep or awake he is adorable. I also don’t think your naked baby “window” is closed. You may just get that perfect nudy shot yet.

Chaley + Ian | A Spring Engagement Session | Dallas, TX

Mary Fields Photography

They met at a wedding of mutual friends. He was from Michigan. She was from Texas. Their paths never would have crossed had it not been for a wedding. She noticed how handsome he was. He thought, ‘That girl is stunning. There is no way that she is single.” Luckily for him, she just happened to be.

She constantly ‘impresses him with her kindness which makes her a perfect partner for life.’ He ‘keeps her calm and is everything she ever wanted in a man.’ They are better together than apart.

Chaley and I met up months ago to discuss the possibility of me shooting her wedding and I was so excited when she decided to book. Months later we were finally able to set up an engagement session since Ian lives out-of-state. I had so much fun with these two and the grass had just turned a lovely shade of green which made me giddy with excitement. They made my job so easy…seriously. They were natural in each other’s arms and I had to do very little coaching because their love did the work. I can’t wait for their June wedding! Chaley and Ian, you truly are the picture of what a couple should be…kind, considerate, encouraging and loving. I feel privileged to document such love!

Enjoy some of my favorites from their e-session!

Happy Monday!

Behind the Lens: The Beauty of Emotion

I held him in my arms, such a small bundle of wonderfulness, and dreaded the inevitable. I handed him to his daddy, kissed his forehead and then turned to my sister. Immediately the tears started to flow. I embraced her tightly, told her that I loved her and said, ‘You can do this.‘ Motherhood that is. With the corners of my eyes brimming, ready to spill over and send salty water running down my cheeks, I said goodbye and headed to the car.

The whole way to the airport I could feel the sting of salty-ness in my eyes and it reminded me of how much my heart ached. “Why do you think women have so much emotion?,” my dad asked me, not trying to be insensitive but truly wondering. “I think it’s because otherwise no one would have a heart,” I joked with him.

It got me thinking though…about emotion. It can’t really be explained and sometimes it feels like it can’t be controlled. It’s God-given and I think it’s a characteristic that reflects Him. Emotion is such an interesting phenomenon as it gives life so much depth, both good and hard. Sweet and sorrowful.

It overtakes you, often without a warning, and won’t let you go until it has completed its work. It brings moments of tear-filled joy. Tear-filled sorrow. Bursts of laugher. Bursts of despair.

Though there are times when I wish those ‘feelings’ would just dissipate, my question is what would the world be like without emotion? It would be cold. Robotic. Unfeeling. Destitute. Desperate. It would be lifeless.

Yes, emotion gives life. It  sets us apart from the rest of creation and crowns us the chief of God’s masterpiece. It is beautiful…in every way.

As I consider the purpose and place of emotion in the world, I am reminded of something very sweet. You see, I get to spend my days capturing the very thing that makes life precious. Emotion.

It’s the foundation of this thing I call a career. It is what drives me creatively and relationally in my business. I can only hope that ten years from now, whether I am still holding a camera in my hand or not, I can look back and see that I did just that. I spent my life and my talents cherishing the emotions that makes us human.

Happy Friday!

Take Me Back Tuesday | In Home Creative | You Pin It, They Build It

What I love about Take Me Back posts is that the sky is the limit. I sure do LOVE my job and taking pictures of wonderful couples/people. However, I also love the fact that photography can be about documenting life itself. I’m thankful that this blog allows me to do all of the above. On that note, today’s Take Me Back post is a little different and special. I’m giving you a little insight in to daily ‘home’ life with me as well as a feature of a local business that you should definitely know about!

A few months ago, I moved in to a home with two wonderful ladies (who have graced the blog several times). We immediately began ‘Pinteresting’ our lives away and dreaming about how we wanted to decorate the house. One thing I particularly loved was barn wood. L.O.V.E. it. I began pinning all kinds of ideas on my ‘Home Decor’ board but would walk away more depressed than excited because you see…I had NO idea how I was going to bring my boards in to reality. Then I was introduced to In Home|Creative. They are a Dallas-based custom carpentry business whose unofficial tag line is ‘If you Pin-it, we can build it.’ Um hello?!!?!?! The answer to my prayers. I began working with them to design some pieces I wanted and squealed with delight when they were finished. No, really…I squealed.

Here are two pieces they did for me, a coffee table and a barn wood accent piece. The coffee table is made out of palette wood and welded with a modern iron base. The accent piece is inspired from a headboard I saw on Pinterest. It’s made from old farm barn wood and is painted with one of my favorite phrases from the Bible. I recently had them design and build a custom shelf for my office that I will show soon! It’s fabulous and makes my life as a photographer SO much easier! If you are looking for any custom carpentry, big or small, I suggest checking out In Home|Creative. Their work is superb, their design is perfectly customized and their customer service is excellent. Check them out/contact them HERE. Because their work is so great and has such a market with my followers, I asked if I could feature them today! Below are some pics of my recent purchases.

So, in the name of making your Pinterest boards come to life,

I say, Take Me Back!

(If you were looking for a nephew Take Me Back post, check back next week. I’m doing his newborn session today so there will be a LOT to see!)
