Take Me Back Tuesday | Sara + Stephen | Love is Weird

Today’s Take Me Back is special. Special because it’s a story of love, patience, and God’s unending faithfulness. It’s a story about two people. Two people in love.

When I moved to Dallas in 2011, I hardly knew anyone. I was coming here on a leap of faith and trusting that God would be faithful. I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’ve had so many wonderful girlfriends in my life. This will probably be a season where those are lacking.’ Well, I’m so thankful to say, that has not been the case in the slightest. Just about a month after arriving in Dallas, I joined a home group/bible study of women through my church. I’m still amazed at how quickly I felt at home. How quickly they embraced me. How quickly they became friends. Sara was one of the co-leaders and has spent the last year and a half faithfully encouraging me and the other girls in the group. She faithfully gets coffee with me every few weeks (including last week when I was terrified I’d let something slip about the upcoming proposal!) and is absolutely a delight.

When I came in to the group, she was faithfully walking in singleness. Last Saturday, she said ‘yes’ to the man she had been praying for. Oh, how quickly God can work! Stephen is ‘everything she prayed for,’ she said. He outdid himself last Saturday as he sent her on a relaxing day with friends, planning out each step, and then ended her day with a surprise at her house. Candles, letters, Polaroids, flowers and a trail that led back to him. It was perfect. Sara and Stephen, congratulations on such an exciting new journey ahead. I can’t wait to see it unfold!

So, in the name of new beginnings, candles, and ‘weird’ love,

I Say, Take Me Back!

**Stephen let me be a part of the day which was so great and I got to capture a bit from the neighbors porch. She may have seen me, the creeper paparazzi next door, but it was worth it!**

Keli + Bryan | Maternity

I know I say this over and over again, but hey, repetition gets a point across! One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to work with people in some of their sweetest life stages…especially when it’s people I have some previous connection with. I feel blessed that my job involves something so important to me. Relationships. All that to say, I have known Keli for a long time because her sister, Kristin, is one of my long time best friends. Through her, I have met the whole family and have followed each of their life stages. I remember when Keli and Bryan were dating, having met while in college at Oklahoma State. I remember when they got engaged and when they tied the knot. I was so excited when I heard that Keli was expecting, her due date being just before my own sister’s. When she talked to Kristin about maybe having me take some maternity pics, I was thrilled. The chance to continue to watch God’s faithfulness unfold in their lives is such a privilege. It was a VERY windy day here in Texas but we had a lot of fun walking around Arbor Hills Nature Park and celebrating the little life that is about to come in to their world. Their little boy is due in March and they can’t wait for his arrival. Keli and Bryan, I am so excited for this new life adventure ahead of you!

Enjoy some of my favorites from our session!

Happy Monday!

Love Is In the Air | Busy Season

My backyard is green right now…of course, most of that is weeds but STILL. Spring is in the air, Internet, which means love is in the air too! I’m not really sure why we associate spring with love. Maybe it’s because it’s love blossoms and so does spring. Maybe it’s because spring brings flowers which make a girl swoon over you when you bring them to her door. Personally, I think it’s because of the sun. The sun gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy…(and happy people just don’t kill their husbands! – name that movie). Let’s face it, I am a grumpy-pants in the winter and care-free in the spring/summer.

In all seriousness though, the spring is a season of love which makes me happy! It also means that I am BUSY! I don’t mind that though because I get to do what I love and celebrate with people who are IN love. While spring is not quite here, it is just around the corner and I have entered in to my busy season with 5 sessions this week. My Canon 5D Mark III and I are getting acquainted quite well and I’m having fun. So, I thought today, I’d give you a little sneak peek of what I’ve been up to this week and what is about to hit the bloggity!

Lots of ‘Wuv…twue wuv’ (name that movie).

Happy Friday!

Take Me Back Tuesday | The Simple Things

With a crazy upcoming wedding season, my engagement sessions have been frequent and oh so fun! Engagements are my favorite because it’s the same emotion as the wedding but with less stress. Anyway, I had the privilege of working with a really great couple last weekend and they had requested that one location be in a field with tall grass. Unfortunately, all the fields I had in mind were too far away so I began to do a little location scouting. Really what this involved was me, my car, some crackers and the open road. I was literally just driving around on the winding roads of McKinney, TX, thinking to myself, if anything happens to me…no one will ever know! At the same time, as the roads twisted and turned and the city got farther and farther away, I was struck by the peacefulness that surrounded me. No high-rise apartment buildings. No sky scrapers. No mix masters. No lines of traffic. No angry drivers. Just the countryside with a few houses spread out in a healthy distance from one another. It was…well, it was QUIET.

As I drove and drank in the peace in quiet, I stopped on the side of the road. It had caught my eye. The sun caught its blades of unkempt grass and they glowed as they blew in the wind. It was nothing super special, just a field that no one really cared about but to me, it was perfect. Perfect in its simplicity. Perfect in its peacefulness. A perfect reminder that sometimes the most moving things are the simplest.

So, in the name of open fields, tall grass and life’s simpler moments,

I Say, Take Me Back!

Time Flies | Oh, What a Year Can Bring

Being the sentimental soul that I am, I couldn’t let today pass without giving a quick shout out to my best friend in all the world and her wonderful husband! Happy 1 year anniversary to my twin sis and my bro-in-law!

I woke up this morning, sat down to journal and realized that one year ago today, we were getting primped for an incredibly special event. My Best Friend’s Wedding…not the movie but the real deal. It was a day that I had both dreaded and anxiously awaited for a long time. Dreaded because it meant relinquishing my role as her best friend. Anxious because it meant an exciting, faith-filled, adventure heavy, thrilling and sharpening journey for my best friend. I stood with them at the altar and cried as they made their vows to one another. Tears of joy, admiration and agreement. The union they were making was one before God and one that I whole heartedly supported. What a fun place to be…feet planted next to your closest friend since before birth as she stands with her back to you and her face to her groom, the man she will join hands with for the rest of her days. That, my friends, is a day for rejoicing!

Today, 365 days later, they are happily married and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the third and newest member to their family (an unexpected surprise for their first year of marriage). This year has flown by at exponential speed but I can still remember the joy I felt that day when I stood next to her. A joy that was mixed with the sweetest sorrow as I handed my baton to the man facing me on that stage. That day will forever be one of the sweetest in my memories.

Beth and David, Happy One Year Anniversary! What a joy it has been to watch you do marriage this year and to see how your love for each other continues to unfold. I love you both more than words can express! Hoping today is one of great celebration and praise for the One who has blessed it all!

Happy Monday!
