Take Me Back Tuesday | Merry Christmas -The Reason for the Season

I know it’s a little late but here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas! I am sitting at my grandparent’s home in Oklahoma, warm and snug, watching Christmas movies with my family. All is well.

However, more than ever before, this year I am reminded of the reason for the season. May we never forget that beyond the Christmas trees, the gifts, the mistletoe and the lights, it all pales in comparison to the ultimate gift. The Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.

In the wake of so many tragedies in our nation as well as some heartaches of my own, the reality of the brokenness of our world is hard to ignore. Horrific unjust acts happen every day and as much as we try to explain them, there is no real understanding. In the midst of this holiday season, I am realizing that while we are celebrating the coming of Christ as a baby, our hope lies in one thing. The return of Christ as a King.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” -Revelation 21:3-5

In the wake of such brokenness, it is this promise that brings hope. This promise that comes with the celebration of Christmas because the birth of Jesus, also brings the hope of His return and the end of tears. The end of mourning. The end of crying and the end of pain. The making of all things new. With this hope, I celebrate today.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season! Praying that if you do not know this hope, that you would begin to seek it out.

Happy Christmas Tuesday!
