Business Planning Week | Make Big Things Happen

This past weekend I had two different people ask me this question. ‘So, what’s next for Mary Fields?’ I stumbled through some answers and then realized I didn’t have as thorough of a response as I would have liked. Aren’t successful business owners always thinking 10 steps ahead? Well this business owner is apparently still learning and while I’m ok with that, I am also challenged to be a little bit more on the offensive.

Last Friday I blogged about dreaming for 2014 and the excitement that comes from broadening your horizons. Well, this week, during a break from weddings, I have set aside the entire week to work through some new business planning worksheets that I purchased last week. I stumbled upon Lara Casey’s ‘Power Sheets’ a few months ago via social media and began to think about doing them myself. Now, at first I was skeptical, fearing that getting the worksheets would mean that I’d actually have to set goals…and shortly after setting them, I’d begin to feel the pressure. The pressure that comes from a fear of not achieving them. ‘What if I dream big, set goals and then never attain them?!?!?” My perfectionist side began to push back at this thought and then I stopped myself. If you never set goals, you will have a hard time achieving anything at all. Not to mention, you don’t get the joy and the growth that comes from the journey. So, I faced my fears, purchased her Powersheets and have set this week aside to do some goal setting. I have very little idea what to expect but I’m pumped at the thought of putting things down on paper and moving forward.

I plan on spending a good majority of this week in coffee shops all over the city (everyone knows that real geniuses get their genius at coffee shops. Duh.) as I hash through these worksheets and look to the future. Wish me luck and hopefully on the other side, I’ll have better responses to their questions. Her’s to making 2014 a year of goal setting and growth that comes through that journey.

Happy Monday!
