TMBT- Palo Duro Canyon

One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is that it often takes me fun places and I get to mix work and play. Over Labor Day weekend, I got to photograph the sweetest wedding near Amarillo, TX. West Texas is a totally different place and one I haven’t visited often. Well, two things made this wedding even more special. First, I got to photograph it with my wonderful husband which was such a blast! He did a great job and it was so fun to have him by my side. Second, as we researched the area, we found that it was home to the second largest canyon in the nation…second only to of course the Grand Canyon. Well, with it being a holiday weekend and because I was traveling with my best friend, we decided to extend our trip and explore a little bit.

Palo Duro Canyon is quite a sight to see and super remarkable. You are driving along on the flattest ground with a straight line separating the dry earth from the big blue sky when all of a sudden, the ground drops out and the canyon sets in. It was amazing! Let me tell you, though, it was HOT! The temperature outside the canyon was a whopping 93 degrees of dry heat but when you are in the bottom of the Canyon, its 15 degrees hotter. Yes, that’s right! 108 degrees with no shade! We were both struggling as we hiked the area. Not far from us, at the most famous and lengthy trail, some people had to be rescued by ambulance/helicopter because of heat exhaustion. Glad we opted not to do that one!

We still had a great time hiking and exploring this great natural phenomenon. Loved adventuring with my favorite adventure partner and I can’t wait to see where we go next. If you live in the area, we highly recommend going to see Palo Duro Canyon! We would just recommend coming in spring or fall!

So, in the name of adventure, memory making, scenic views and traveling with your best friend,

I Say, Take Me Back!

PaloDuro_0015 PaloDuro_0016 Stopped and sat on this random bench and had the greatest time just chatting and dreaming about the future. It was probably our favorite part of the whole trip.  PaloDuro_0017 PaloDuro_0018 PaloDuro_0019 PaloDuro_0020 PaloDuro_0021 I love adventure. I love him. I doubly love adventuring with him.  PaloDuro_0022

Glad you took time to see this part of our state! You guys really need to come back in early summer to see the stage production, “Texas”, that they do down in the canyon there. It’s fabulous!
