Take Me Back Tuesday | Being Here

I racked my brain. What do I want to ‘go back to?’ What do I want to remember? Being the sentimental craz-o that I am (yes, I just used the word craz-o), I’m always looking back on things. It’s one of my most defining characteristics and also one of my strangest quirks. I’ll admit it. After all, we’re all a little weird. If you don’t think so…well, then that alone makes you weird. No offense. But I digress!

As I was thinking about today’s Take Me Back post, it occurred to me that right now, in this season, I don’t want to look back. Oh, I’m sure next week’s post will be something nostalgic as it usually is, but today…today I just want to be here. My roommates and I hosted a housewarming/Christmas party last weekend (complete with a fire pit, stump seating and s’more roasting) and to me, it inaugurated this holiday season. I am one of the few that still remembers the holiday known as Thanksgiving. I know, I know. It’s a foreign term in our holiday vocabulary these days, quickly overrun by the early appearances of those Christmas wreaths, lights and good ole’ St. Nick. I, however, like to give poor Thanksgiving a chance. Once the turkey has been inhaled, the pie consumed and the thanks shared, I am then ready to welcome in the delights of Christmas music, caroling, hot cocoa and everything red and green. Now that the season has set in, I am enjoying it fully and desiring not to rush through it.

Thus, instead of looking back to something today, I invite you to just enjoy with me this holiday season. At least for today! After all, this season marks the birth of the world’s great Savior and the greatest gift ever given. Instead of spending time wishing to be ‘Taken Back,’ today I just want to be ‘here.’

So, in the name of a rich holiday season,

I say, ‘Don’t Take Me Back!’

(had to keep with the theme at least a little!)
