The world fell under a frost and my life had to succumb. It had to relinquish the control. The pace. The speed. With the earth frozen beneath me, my feet had no choice but to give way and stop their incessant moving. As the blanket of ice fell on Thursday night here in Dallas, it brought with it stillness and something I needed so desperately.
Rest.
The last few days have been slow and though it fights against my nature, they have been wonderful. My roommates and I holed up for a bit as we waited out this winter storm that is so rare here in Texas. I wish it had been snow but instead, a thick blanket of ice covered my city this past weekend, leaving its residents fairly homebound. Though I still worked, I enjoyed slow mornings and cozy evenings. Naturally, I also had to take advantage of it to get some winter portraits. How often do I get to shoot in the ‘snow?!?’ The answer is not often. As I told my friends, ‘I’m a photographer and a female. OF COURSE I’m going to take pictures in the snow!’ My friend/assistant, Julie, and I ventured out for a few quick snapshots and it wasn’t long before we couldn’t feel our fingers. We did have a lot of fun though! I’ve been trying to get in front of the camera a little more so as to understand more what it feels like to be a client. I can really honestly say that I feel very uncomfortable but I’m working on it!
So, in the name of rest, blankets of ice and snow portraits,
I Say, Take Me Back!
