Take Me Back Tuesday | A Facebook Flashback

Today’s blog was supposed to be about something else but in the process of preparing for it, I decided to make a switch. I was inspired you might say. I was working on a TMBT post and I needed some old pictures to illustrate it well, so, naturally I went to Facebook. Let’s be honest, Facebook serves as the great archive of our lives. Whether you want to admit it or not, the ‘book’ is most likely your longest running and most organized timeline of your life. Your personal online scrapbook. I keep wondering what would happen if Facebook crashed and I lost all of my pictures…tragedy would ensue around the world…I’m pretty convinced. Anyway, I was scrolling through the pictures I am tagged in on ‘the book’ with the hopes of finding a few specific ones to best illustrate a point I had. With thousands of photos to look through, I decided the best idea would be to start from the back and work my way to the front. Holding down the back arrow key, I began to scroll rapidly through the images and something funny happened.

I began to see a slide show of my life in the last 10 years.

Now, that might seem kind of trivial to you, but for this sentimental soul, it was anything but. The pictures scrolled by too fast for me to register each one but slow enough for me to get snapshots of moments in life that I had forgotten. People I hadn’t talked to you in forever. Places I have visited. Costumes I have worn. Friendships being established. Experiences that have shaped who I am. It was like one of those flip books that tell a story through images when you flip through them quickly. It was surreal. Life goes by so fast and those moments seem like yesterday. Seeing all that I have done in the last ten years and the places God has taken me, I found myself feeling very blessed. Bittersweet of course, knowing I can’t relive those times, but also stirring up unbelievable thankfulness for a life full of fun experiences and relationships that have made me who I am.

I highly recommend you do a little Facebook Flashback yourself. Start at your very first picture ever posted and then hold down your left arrow key (so as to go fast) and relive your life…at least what’s been documented on Facebook. It may seem silly, but to me, I think it’s a great reminder of where we have been so we can be thankful and look forward to where we are going. Plus, it’s hilarious…

So, in the name of Facebook Flashbacks and a full life,

I Say, Take Me Back!

And since every post is better with a picture, here is one I found while scrolling…and was reminded of that time that my twin sister and I auditioned to be the ‘Doublemint Twins.’ True and shameless story. Thank you Facebook Flashback for the resurrection of this memory.
