Take Me Back Tuesday | Sweet and Salty Melodies

The way I figure it, you either grow up a beach kid or a mountain kid. Maybe you were lucky enough to be both but let’s be honest, in my humble opinion, most families are prone to one or the other. It’s like your ‘thing’ as a family. We ALWAYS go to the beach every summer….or we ALWAYS go skiing every Christmas. For my family, it was my mom grew up on the beach and can’t stand to be cold…so, it was decided. We were a beach family. Now, my dad would have loved to be spending some peaceful time along a bubbling brook in the Rockies on a cool summer day. Buuuut, you win some you lose some.

Yep, every summer we would pile into the car (or actually my dad would scoop our snoozing little selves up at 2 am) and we’d begin the two-day journey to Florida. Our full size van was so wicked cool…or at least I thought so at the time…complete with a TV. We were so cutting edge…at the time anyway. We’d pull up to the shore and waste no time to race into the salty crashing waves. It was heavenly.

Unfortunately, when you grow up a beach kid and I’m guessing a mountain kid as well, there is something ingrained in you that you just can’t let go. It’s like coming home. Like reliving precious childhood memories. For me, the sea salted air and the thunderous noise of the tide are some of life’s sweetest melodies. Which is why, today I got giddy excited! Yep, so excited because hopefully in a month or so my toes will be dug deep in the sand and that sea salted air will be blowing hard against my face! Lucky for me, my sweet sister and BFF since the womb lives in the great state of FL, and I’m trying to plan a trip. A beach trip!

So, in the name of sweet and salty melodies…

I say, Take Me Back!

Happy Tuesday!

I’m going too, yippee!!! Time for some serious body surfing 🙂

Bekah - September 12, 2012 - 1:59 am

Yes, my friend you are correct. You’re one or the other. Probably not both. Which is why the last year and a half of my life has been an out of body experience. I’m here. By the beach. But my heart and soul are somewhere in the Blue Ridge and Ozark mountains.

That being said, please come to FL and visit your womb mate and your suite mate. You’re loved and missed!!

Jessica’s Bridals | Dallas Wedding Photographer

There is only one thing that is frustrating about bridal portraits…I have to wait FOREVER to show them! Ok, so maybe forever is a slight exaggeration, but still. It at least seems like forever because I am just so excited to show them to you, Cyberworld. However, the ‘rules’ prevent me from doing so, which makes sense because blasting a bride’s images all over the Internet before the wedding might just ruin her special day. Maybe.

Anyway, I got to photograph Jessica’s beautiful Dallas, TX wedding this last Friday so I am finally free to share her gorgeous bridals! It was a really hot summer day when we did her session but she was a champ, being a photographer herself. We headed to the gorgeous Mandalay Canals in Las Colinas, TX , which fit perfectly into her travel themed wedding. She was a beautiful bride even in the summer heat! I can’t wait to show you pictures of her wedding soon, but until then, enjoy some of my favorites of her bridal session!

Happy Monday!

Favorite shot of the whole session.

Megan + Matt: A DIY Wedding | Lubbock, TX

They met in high school and fell in love. What an ideal story for two lovebirds! It was an incredibly hot summer day in Lubbock, TX (which is pretty typical I’m sure) but that didn’t have any affect on these two as they celebrated such a special day. It was so very easy to see that they were just ready to get married and start their life together. Megan and her mom had worked for months on the wedding details to make sure that it all came together perfectly. With friends and family present and in support, they pledged their lives to each other forever. I was so very blessed to have a small part in their day and can’t wait to see how life unfolds for them…even if it is going to start in Austin,TX at that other University that we don’t speak of! I kid, I kid.

Megan and Matt, I hope that married life is serving you well! Thanks so much for letting me be there for your special day! I believe that your road ahead is going to be richly blessed because of your selfless love for one another.

Take Me Back Tuesday: Sunshine, Water and Lakeside Fun.

Well, Internet, welcome to my first installment of Take Me Back Tuesday! Get excited! I sure am.

I must give partial credit to my look alike and BFF-extraordinaire because she did help me brainstorm and come up with the name. Take Me Back Tuesday posts will simply be anything that has some sort of ‘take me back’ factor. Could be something I’ve run across that takes me back to some sweet memory. A place/restaurant/entertainment that I must return to because was just THAT good. An experience I had that I want to treasure and share with the world. Or maybe, just an old picture that I can’t let go of. It’s a wide spectrum I suppose and it may just unfold as we go!

So, for my first installment of ‘Take Me Back,’ I thought it only fitting to show you some pics of our lake day yesterday. Here’s the thing, Internet, it was such a day of rest and relaxation, I’d go back in an instant. My family and I decided last minute to pack our bags, throw some snacks in a cooler, pray that our jet ski would start and head off into the 100 degree heat. It was Labor Day after all and what a fun labor-free day it was too. For a good chunk of the afternoon we would trade off between taking wild rides out on the lake, jumping wakes like there was nothing to lose, and sitting in the shade just reading a good book. For a girl that loves the sun (that’s this girl), it was a perfect day.

So I say, Take Me Back.

Happy Tuesday!

Now, Texas lakes aren’t that pretty but at least there’s water!!!

So, I may or may not of have been loving the ‘floppy hat’ craze of summer 2012. I am not quite convinced that I can pull it off but I’m content to just tell myself I can. Denial? Maybe, but it’s blissful nonetheless.

Good reads.

Peaceful.

My Labor Day Costume Skills.

So…there was this one time that I dressed up as Labor Day. No, that wasn’t a typo. I didn’t mean to say ‘for’ instead of ‘as.’ I dressed up as Labor Day.

For six years of my life, I spent my summer months in the hills of the Ozarks at a wonderful Christian sports camp, Kanakuk Kamps. My days were spent teaching kids how to shoot a bow and arrow, use the J-stroke in a canoe and how to scream really loud when you went down the zip line. Ok, so maybe I didn’t have to do much instruction for the last one. My nights, however, were spent dressing up in the craziest costumes you could think of. Things that don’t really make sense. Wigs that had been through so much there were some bald spots. Clothes that mismatched coupled with random things like floaties, tutus, goggles, neon scrunchies, butterfly wings and flippers. You laugh, but where I was, wearing that meant you were the cool kid. Yeah I know, why can’t every day life be like that?

One night for an all kamp party, the theme was holiday. Now, I don’t want to brag, but I have to say I’m a pretty good costume-er (yes that’s a word) which means I can’t just go with the norm. No red and green Christmas outfit for me. Too easy. No red, white and blue flag shirt. Too predictable. And definitely no beaked-face with turkey feathers taped to my head. Too over-done. No, my style is much more creative. So, naturally I wore scrubs, made myself a nice round belly out of a towel and taped a sign on my stomache that said “First Monday in September.” The whole night I danced with one hand on my belly and the other on my lower back like I was in pain.

Well, cyberworld, I’d love to tell you that the crowd saw the creativity and humor that I did. I’d love to tell you I got the ‘Most Creative Costume’ award and was heralded forever in Kanakuk Kostume History. But, that would be a lie. Never in my life have I gotten so many awkward stares. Kids and counselors alike. So…maybe my costume was slightly inappropriate for a youth camp dance? Maybe. It didn’t take long for me to dance my little ‘pregnant’ self out of there and have my own little ‘Labor Day.”

On that note, here is to wishing you a Happy Labor Day!!!! Unfortunately/Fortunately I have no plans to be an amazing costume-er today but am instead headed to the lake!

Happy Monday!

(I searched everywhere for the picture of me in that costume but no such luck. No worries though because apparently my pregnant costume makes an appearance every now and then. This is an Instagram…sorry for the quality…of me last winter for a costume game in the mall for a youth group. A different version of Labor Day but still fitting. My fun friend was the Target Lady. Like I said, I’m a really good costume-er. And as a disclaimer, I am not nor have I ever been pregnant!)
