Owen | Oklahoma Newborn Session

One of the most fun things about my job is reconnecting with old friends that I haven’t seen in far too long. When Whitney contacted me about doing a session with her sweet baby Owen (who had not yet made his appearance) I was so excited. You see Whitney and I grew up going to the same elementary school, taking dance classes together at Ms. Kem’s Dance studio, and walking the halls of Ponca City High School. Years later, what a fun way for us to reconnect? This time, though, she had a sweet new addition to her life and the cuteness was just too much. With my wedding schedule being so crazy, I don’t always get the time to do family/newborn sessions. So, when I do, I have such a bast and probably say “Awwww” about 20 times while I’m editing. It’s true.

Enjoy some of my favorites of sweet little Owen!

Happy Wednesday!

(Owen’s initials spell OWL so his grandmother had this cute outfit made for him. Ridiculously precious.)

Take Me Back Tuesday | Celebrating 1 Year of Adventure

The wheels touched down and I began to panic. What was I doing here? I hardly knew a soul. It was so big…the city that is, and suddenly, I felt very small. How would I ever make my way in such a large place? This concrete jungle was so different from the hills I had left behind. The pace of life so much faster, the roads SO much more crowded and the temptation to feel insignificant so much more significant.
In the midst of all of this panic, however, I grabbed my bags and made my way to the airport exit. As I walked out into the humid October air, I took a deep breath and realized something important.
I was on a totally new adventure.
The greatest part about adventure is that even in the midst of the daunting unknown, there remains a relentless fact. The unknown has a redeeming sort of thrill that makes it all worth it. The very thing that catalyzes a trembling sense of fear is also a catalyst for an overwhelming excitement for the possibilities ahead.
One year ago today, the wheels of my American Airlines flight touched down in Dallas, TX and I was ‘home.’ I didn’t know what was ahead and I didn’t know how life would unfold in this new foreign place, but I knew that the Lord had drawn me there…in faith. So in confidence I composed my panic and stepped out into my new adventure. Now, a year later, I look back at that panicked moment and I am so grateful that I didn’t retreat but instead dove head first into the unknown. My first year in this city has been one marked by rich growth, both in business and in life. Days have been both good and challenging but my community is sweet, my job is a blessing, my family is close and my God remains faithful. What a year to celebrate!
So, in honor of my one year ‘new adventure’ anniversary and the reminder to walk confidently into the unknown,
I say, Take Me Back!
Happy Tuesday!
(the top picture embodies so much to me about the last year. Camera in hand, back to the past and facing the skyline of my city…the future.)

[…] last year’s Take Me Back post of the end of year 1, I posted a photo of me facing the skyline, camera in hand. Ironically, I shot a wedding at that […]

Take Me Back Tuesday | Some Things Are Worth It

Some things are worth it. ‘It’ meaning a number of things. In this case, ‘it’ is the 3 C’s. The calories, the chaos and the cash. You see every year during the month of October, there is a gathering of sorts in the state of Texas. People come flooding in every night, ready to fork over the dough and lose about ten years off their life just to indulge in some deep fried food. Fried Butter. Fried Oreos. Fried Frito Pie. Fried Cookie Dough. Fried Pizza. Fried PB&J. Fried Ice Cream. And this year’s winner, Fried Jumbalaya. Yep, the State Fair of Texas is a ‘fryin’ good time.

Now, while I might try a thing or two of the unique fried persuasion, my allegiance always goes to one thing. The Fletcher’s Corn Dog. It’s the best overpriced corn dog you ever put in your mouth. Well worth the calories, the chaos and the cash. Last night my family and I made the annual trip downtown to take part in the cultural phenomenon that is the State Fair of Texas. I got my Fletcher’s corn dog and was satisfied for at least another year. If you are in the Dallas area, may I recommend that you forgo the 3 C’s and get yourself one…

So, in the name of calories, chaos and cash,

I say, Take Me Back!!!

Happy Tuesday!

The Mack’s | Branson, Missouri Mini-session

I don’t do many family sessions because weddings are really my specialty, but when I do get the chance, I love it! Especially when you get to work with adorable little ones like these two! The Mack family has the coolest story with how their family has unfolded. Making their mission to be about spreading the gospel to inner city kids, they work for Kids Across America, the sister ministry of my old stomping grounds, Kanakuk Kamps. This sweet family lived in my neighborhood during my years nestled in the Ozarks. They had little their adorable little boy and were anxiously waiting their little girl. Sometime during their pregnancy, though, they found out that their sweet daughter had a mass in her brain the size of a golf ball. Determined to rely on the goodness of God, they prayed faithfully and so did so many of their friends. Today, she is a miraculously healthy 1 year old. What a testimony to the power of prayer.

I was only able to do a quick mini session with these precious little ones last time I was in town, but I love the images that came out of it. There is nothing like the sweet smile of a child! Enjoy a few of my favorites!

Happy Wednesday!

Hey Mary – I came across your site when I was looking for photos of Branson. I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask – but my family and I are visiting for the first time mid-September and have been going through all those ticket sites lookign for shows and attractions. We’ve decided on a few shows and are thinking of booking on http://www.bransonshowtickets.com – do you have any opinions of this site? Any idea if they are legitimate? Or prefer one site to another? Thanks for your insight. Also – do you have any recommendations – I have one 5 year old son, and a 7 year old daughter. Maybe something my husband and the kids will enjoy too? -Jamie
