Friday Tips and Tricks | Hang It Up Nice

Tips_0006

Oh, Internet, it is a woppin’ 30 degrees outside and I’m cozied up in my office, space heater on full power with a large sweatshirt on. You might say I’m a little bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold. I don’t like it!!! However, every once in a while its kind of nice to bury yourself under a warm blanket and watch a movie. Of course, that is not happening today as I’m shooting my last wedding of 2013 tomorrow and have a lot to do!

On that note, because my 2013 wedding season is coming to a close, I thought I’d do a Friday Tips and Tricks post for all of you 2014 and future brides out there. This particular tip has become one of my most passionate topics when it comes to how to make your wedding pictures the best they can be. It may seem small…but it makes a huge difference. That, my friends, is the topic of your dress hanger!!! Now before you think I’m crazy, let me explain. Or as Desi Arnez says, ‘let me splain’ (Forever an I Love Lucy fan). Whenever I show up to photograph a wedding, the first thing I do (besides introducing myself to the bridal party) is to gather and photograph all of the wedding day details. This would include the shoes, the jewelry, the rings, the garter, the veil, the invitations and of course…the dress! When I first started with weddings, I can’t tell you how many times I would go to grab the dress and find that it was hanging on a white plastic hanger with those clippy things you see at department stores. Now, this was not a poor intention on the bride’s part just a poor lack of communication on mine. You see, your dress is beautiful and I love to showcase that beauty in my photographs. However, when I hang it on a gorgeous wooden door, the beauty will somewhat be lost when the eye is drawn to the cheap plastic white hanger that it sits on. Trust me.

So, here is today’s little tip and trick. Invest in a little bit of a nicer hanger! The trend these days is to purchase one with your new name bent into the wiring which I absolutely LOVE! As a lover of details, what a great one to add to your wedding day! However, it doesn’t have to be this extravagant. Even a pretty wooden hanger from your grandmother’s closet will do just fine! Trust me on this one…you won’t regret it.

I’m so passionate about this, that for my 2014 brides, I’m considering purchasing a hanger that says ‘Bride’ on it and carrying it in my bag as a backup. Yeah…totally not kidding.

Hope this helps!

Happy Friday! Tips_0005 Tips_0007 Tips_0008 Tips_0009 Tips_0010 Tips_0011
