FREE VISA GIFT CARD | Mary Fields’ Fall Giveaway Week | Thursday

Ok, Internet, today is the LAST day of Fall giveaways before announcing my GIANT giveaway tomorrow! Make sure to check back in the morning to see what it is! However, today is also a favorite of mine so make sure to write in as well. Being a wedding photographer and a self-proclaimed sentiment/tradition nut, I love when couples/families incorporate unique things in to their wedding day. So, for today’s giveaway, leave a comment telling me something special/unique/fun that you included, would include, or saw a friend include in their wedding that you would absolutely do again! This would be anything that isn’t super traditional that made your wedding day special to you and could be used as ideas for other brides. If you aren’t married, maybe it’s something a friend did or something you WOULD do. The winner will receive a $30 Visa Gift Card!

Yesterday’s winner will be announced later today so check back!

Happy Thursday!

A friend of mine actually had a Pirate/Fairy themed wedding. Bride was dressed in a Fairy costume and Groom was in Pirate costume. All those attending had the choice of which they wanted to dress as.

I really like the idea of mixing sand for the unity symbolism rather than the flame. A flame can be blown out, but once you blend sand you can never separate yours from theirs. It becomes fully blended!

My husband is a huge football fan so for his garter toss he strapped it around a football and threw a Hail Mary to the group of guys instead. 🙂

I have not seen this at a wedding, but I would like to wash each other’s feet instead of a unity candle or sand. The pastor would read the scripture below then Jonathan would wash my feet first then switch. During this time a song would play.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12: 9-13

This act of service humbles you before your spouse and demonstrates the love that you vow to each other. It also reminds us the sacrifice and grace that God has given us through being the center of our relationship. It would be a testimony of our promise to serve each other and allow our guests to see that.

At a friend’s Christmas wedding, they did their own version of the Unity Candle. Instead of a candle they used a mini Christmas tree on which the bridal couple’s mom hung a special Christmas ornament. Each year these ornaments are hung together on the couple’s tree to symbolize the uniting of their families.

My sweet friends Alex & Kenton served communion to all of the guests after saying their vows. It was so sweet and personal!

The coolest/neatest thing seen during a wedding was when a father who was thought to not dance at all, took the time to not just share a dance with his daughter, but they had an elaborate dance with different styles of dance set to a music mix and the bride and father had the biggest smiles. You could just see how much that moment meant to them both, plus it was super entertaining.

At my wedding, my dad and I hula danced together to the very first hula dance that we learned together. I know that you always have the father/daughter dance or mother/son dance, but it was neat to show everyone a part of my culture and to share that memory with my dad. It would be neat to share something of your culture. We also had a small hula show. My culture means a lot to me.

A friend instead of throwing the bouquet honored two single ladies that were not in her wedding w/their own bouquet. It was special. It is something I will do if The Lord provides a husband for me 🙂
