Behind the Lens | The Beauty of His Majesty | A Texas Sunset

Christmas_0027

I had just finished a bridal session near the lake and was headed to meet some friends downtown. As I pulled out of the parking lot my eyes darted over to the beautiful orange hues that seemed to be peeking over the trees on the western horizon. It was clear that a beautiful sunset was forming and so I thought I’d take a slight detour to the lake in order to watch it unfold. When I pulled up, I got my camera out and headed for the water. As I reached it, my feet stopped and I took my eyes up, letting out an audible, “Wow.” That word was really the only way to express what my eyes were viewing in that moment. It was truly a masterpiece to be marveled at. Bikers and runners alike stopped with me to gaze at the beauty of the sky and for a moment, I was in awe. In awe of the colors that appeared before me, almost as if they were strokes on a canvas. In awe of the way the light silhouetted the city skyline, contrasting its rigid and perfectly constructed buildings against the carefree and effortless strokes of the sky. That’s what it was…effortlessly beautiful and in that moment, I marveled at the Artist. A God who takes joy in designing a simple sunset for us, in the midst of our crazy lives, as a reminder of His majesty. He is above all things and in Him all things hold together. He cares about the small things of our tiny lives and yet still commands the universe. He is perfect in His majesty. The sun soon went behind the horizon and the beautiful strokes began to disappear as the sky gave in to the darkness of night. I got back in my car and headed on…but the truth of that sunset never fades. There is a God, the one true God, who delights in painting sunsets for His creation. My hope is that my life serves as an open canvas for Him.

I hope you will take time in your busy schedules to sit and watch the sunset, letting it remind you that the Artist is painting it to display His own glory and to bless you in the process.

Happy Friday!
