Behind the Lens: Texas Heat, Coffee Lenses and Sparkler Burns

Some people think I never stop. They say I need to slow down. Not try to do as much…

I can’t say I disagree with them. My nature is to go, go, go and well…go some more. I don’t think it’s all bad because I love it, I get a lot done and it makes me who I am. However, I do think there is a limit. After a long spring/summer wedding season…I finally have a little bit of a break. A blog post about that SOON! It’s been a crazy 16 weeks of work but it’s been so blessed. As I sit here this morning, I have a few things on my mind…totally random things but all of which make me feel like they are a great close to this crazy wedding season.

1. This past weekend I was inducted. Initiated. I crossed over into an elite group. Yep, I shot two weddings in extreme Texas heat. One being outdoor wedding. It was a BEAUTIFUL wedding of which I cannot wait to share some favorites but it was indeed HOT. At the end of it, having shot for about 13 hours in 100+degree weather, I felt like I had climbed the Mount Everest of photography. I was unashamedly proud.

2. I got my first sparkler burn(s). It was bound to happen eventually. Every photographer’s fear and dread. I had managed to go without that ‘wonderful’ experience for an incredible streak but every record must be broken. It was time for the send of and a guest unintentionally stuck his sparkler into my bicep like I was cattle being branded. Branded I was too. Scarred forever I’m afraid. Not to mention I screamed like a little girl (hilarious to the onlooker I am sure). Of course I was burned even worse 20 minutes later on the same arm. I suppose I’ll look at it as a battle wound cause well…that makes me hard-core, right? So hard-core.

3. Last, I found myself passing out on my desk this morning as I was trying to work (also hilarious to the onlooker) and realized I needed my elixir of life…coffee. After two weddings in one weekend and guests in town, I was zonked. Then I remembered something super cool. A dear thoughtful friend sent me the coolest gift in the mail last week. Yep, a coffee cup in the shape of a lens. Is that not the coolest thing or what?!?! And in answer to the question you are asking in your head right now,  yes, I DO know that qualifies me as a total photog nerd. Again…unashamed! Bring it.

Happy Monday!

*Oh and yes…I like my coffee to be a perfect shade of light brown…aka, full o’ sugar!!!

I need one if those! (The coffee mug that is, not the sparkler branding or 100 degree heat or passing out from tiredness. No thanks, I don’t care too much for those things. But that coffee mug, that is one cool coffee mug!!)
