Behind the Lens | Sometimes I Have To Remind Myself

Sometimes I have to remind myself.

Every once in a while, there are days like today, when life feels out of control. My office is a wreck. My laundry is piled up a mile high (seriously, it’s like Everest). My To Do list is so daunting it might as well be an animate object with a megaphone screaming, “Good luck. You’ll never get me done!” That’s the way it feels anyway. Yes, there are those days when I have to stop and remind myself. I have to remind myself that I do what I do because of what it celebrates. Photography celebrates the beauty that is people and specifically relationships between those very people. We, created in the image of a relational God, are made to be creatures who relate and who are made better by interaction with other relational creatures. No matter how introverted or extroverted you might be, we all long to be known and to share life with others to some degree. We watch movies that champion this, we read books whose content is rich with this and we weep at stories where this idea is the central theme. It is simple. We desire relationship. It is this that I love about the art of photography. It captures this nature that is so central to humanity…the desire to relate.

So, on days like today, when life seems too big to handle, I have to remind myself. And then, I am comforted to forge ahead because at the end of the day, it is worth it.

Hoping that when life feels too big, that you will remember to celebrate the beauty of relationship.

Happy Monday.
