Behind the Lens |My Heart is Full |A Belated Merry Christmas

My friends and I were recently talking about how women use funny phrases like, ‘My heart is happy,’ or ‘that just really filled my heart.’ We laughed about how not many guys use those terms and what do they even really mean? It was a comical conversation because those phrases do sound a bit ridiculous but you know what…

My heart is full.

It just is. If you follow this blog very much, you have probably picked up on the fact that my family is incredibly important to me and I get a little crazy when they come in to town. This is especially true now that I have two unbelievably precious nephews who make my voice jump two or three octaves and my face contort into all kinds of ridiculous expressions. Let’s be honest, when children arrive on the scene, adults suddenly lose all senses of composure just to get a smile. If we stepped outside of ourselves and saw what we were doing, we might even be a little embarrassed…or not. Well, this was the first Christmas in two years that we have all been together and the first one ever that we had little ones in attendance. My sisters and I have been talking about this event since this time last year when we found out that we had two babies on the way. I have been looking forward to it since then…no joke…and it did not disappoint. This past weekend, we all descended upon my parent’s home and quickly took over with pack n’plays, bottles, suitcases, computers, phone chargers and hungry stomaches. It was a sight to see…and boy did it ‘make my heart happy.’ We spent the next five days laughing, LOTS of laughing, and simply enjoying all being together. We aren’t perfect. In fact, we are far from it. We have conflict and get on each other’s nerves just like anyone else and yet, we love each other whole-heartedly and are so grateful for the way God has blessed us as a family. His goodness to us is undeserved and yet He delights in doing it. Today, as we head out in different directions, I am so mindful of the grace of God in giving me such a wonderful family who understands that this season is to celebrate the coming of our Savior. I pray that we honor Him, as we go out, by making much of His name.

So, I am a little late in saying this, but it’s true nonetheless…

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace   – Isaiah 9:6

Yes, I did INSIST on this picture and yes…I did have to set up a tri-pod to get it, complete with me sprinting to get in to place. Oh, the life of a photographer during family Christmas.
