“I had been in love with Abby for, well…forever,” he said to me as we all sat over dinner on Capitol Hill, recovering from the DC January temperatures. Abby just smiled and the two clasped hands, laughing at the journey that had brought them together…completely content.
Abby and Chris were college friends who were always close but whose relationship just hadn’t hit the right timing. According to Chris though, he had always been in love with her. Their paths took them different ways for a couple of years but God’s perfect plan brought them back together…at just the right time. Miles apart, him in Pennsylvania and her in Florida, they began their relationship and a sweet love story. After a year of long distance dating, he proposed on a November night and she eagerly said yes. As we walked the streets of Washington DC, their love for one another was unmistakable. Not a love that is limited by the excitement of romance or the rush of a new adventure, but the steady love of two people whose love is first and foremost rooted in their love for Jesus Christ. It is that love that overflows into their love for one another. It is that love that makes this marriage so sweet.
Abby and Chris, thank you so much for letting me be part of your journey! I can’t even express how privileged I feel and how blessed I am to get to work with couples like you! You remind me that my job is special and rich. Thanks for being such troopers in the cold! I can’t wait for April and for warmer Florida temperatures. Even more though, I can’t wait to see where God takes the two of you and how He uses your marriage for His glory.
(I have known Abby for a few years through Kanakuk Kamps and through her sister, Autumn, a dear friend and a past Mary Fields’ bride. When Abby got engaged and asked me to shoot her wedding in Florida in April, I was ecstatic! I love her, I love her family and I love Florida! As if that wasn’t enough, when we worked it out for me to come to Washington DC for their engagement shoot, I was beside myself. My job is just the greatest. The weather was chilly but we had a blast shooting in our nation’s capitol with the Washington Monument always in our view. We started at Alexandria Harbor, then went to a coffee shop that they love on Capitol Hill and finished with a Potomac River/Lincoln Monument backdrop. What a day!)
Enjoy some of my favorites from their Washington DC Engagement session! Beware: We shot for about 4 hours so there are a LOT. Sorry, not sorry.
Happy Monday!
Ok, so this shot was within the first five minutes so I knew it was going to be a good day. Those eyes, Abby, those eyes.
Definitely Abby’s idea to climb over onto this ledge. She is an adventurer…in heels…and I love it.
Stop it you two. Too much.
Beautiful.
See what I mean?! Those eyes!
One of the owners of the boats in the harbor let us get on! So fun! Abby is from the coast of Florida and so water is calming to her.
Money shot.
Definitely climbed into one of the dinghies that was in the harbor…that also happened to be filled with ice. Again…troopers.
Abby and Chris come to DC a lot to visit Chris’ sister and brother-in-law. This is one of their favorite coffee shops and quickly became one of mine. It would be my morning stop if I lived there…
Favorite.
Love. Love. Love this shot.
Favorite.
Yep, I could get used to shooting here.
I LOVED each and every one Mary! You are so talented beyond words with your wording in the love stories and your pictures. Thanks for sharing your God given gifts with all of us.
Wow! Amazing photos of an amazing couple. I am soooo glad I don’t have to pick out the best ones. I would have to choose them all. Thank you to the awesome photographer and my love and best wishes for a wonderful wedding.
